How did Omaha become ground zero on abortion?

So, it appears that the Omaha mayoral race is really important to the Democrats, for some reason, but it has also turned into a giant cluster-fudge for them. Monday last week, DNC chairman Tom Perez named Omaha in a list of races where the Democrat Party is investing in hopes of flipping the House in 2018. Thursday last, Bernie Sanders was seen in Omaha stumping for Democrat Heath Mello with a 45-min ramble about soaking the rich. But now Bernie and the DNC are under fire from their base because, it seems, Mello's progressive bona fides are insufficient. Mello's crime? He's apparently not pro-abortion enough! Back in 2009, he co-sponsored a bill in the Nebraska Unicameral that would allow a woman seeking an abortion to see an ultrasound if she wanted to. See, freedom to choose doesn't include the choice to actually lay eyes on the "clump of cells" she's evicting from her body. We wouldn't want women to be informed or *gasp* make up their own minds abo...

Gorsuch: A Win-Win-Win-Win-Winning SCOTUS Pick

Image
President Trump took the "win-win-win..." approach on his first SCOTUS pick. There's literally no downside to nominating Neil Gorsuch. If Gorsuch is approved by the Senate, then he replaces Antonin Scalia as a Constitutional originalist heir-apparent. If Democrats try to block such a qualified and uncontroversial appointment—and moreso if they succeed—they beclown themselves further than they already have in the last few weeks, (if that's even possible.) But that's wonk stuff that gets covered everywhere. The big win is how he caught everyone off guard. Yesterday, like many others, I was still jabbing at Trump's flower-ceremony-like approach to his announcement for SCOTUS. After lots of long, drawn out teasing about the candidates on his list and how he was narrowing it down, Trump theatrically summoned both of his final candidates to Washington D.C. ahead of the official announcement. But a tweet from Sen. Ben Sasse helped me to see the drama for what it wa...

Trump isn’t playing 3D chess because he doesn’t have to

What is up with Donald Trump calling for an investigation into voter fraud? He won, didn’t he? The favored narrative within the Trump-hostile media is that he is thin-skinned and bothered at not winning the popular vote. I don’t think so, for a couple of reasons that should be obvious. One, thin-skin and success don’t go together well. Say what you will about daddy’s money, Donald didn’t inherit a brand. And two, the electoral strategy he won the presidency by all but guaranteed a popular loss. It’s crazy to be upset that your plan worked perfectly. So, if you think Trump is a lunatic, you may as well stop reading now. So what is going on? It’s highly unusual for any winner to question the process that led to his win. But Trump is an unusual president. Just look at how active he’s been in his first week! More to the point, look at what he’s working on. He’s tackling a lot of issues that voters on the right have been begging to have addressed for decades! Federal hiring, abortion, oil ...
