[ alt link ]  The only way to understand the Left is to get into their headspace, which is a completely foreign place to the average conservative or even centrist thinker. I'm not so good at leading people down the path, so I drop little nuggets and hope it attracts people who "get" it. It looks as if Olympic fever may have gone to Marco Rubio’s head. That’s because, in the name of simplifying the U.S. tax code, the senator from Florida proposes to further complicate it. And he’s making this proposal on the coattails of our Olympic athletes. In brief, Rubio wants to make tax exempt the prize money that the U.S. Olympic Committee awards to medal-winning athletes at the games—prize money that most Americans have been largely unaware of until the good senator proposed his bill . So, what’s a paltry two pages on top of an over 72,000-page tax code? It’s not as though tiny little exemptions are what made it grow complicated and cumbersome. I don't think there was any question about which topic would dominate the Sunday shows this week. Pretty much every show was devoted to discussion of the Supreme Court's ruling on ObamaCare and trying to make some sense of Chief Justice Roberts' decision. While the blog-o-sphere and talk radio are lamenting that the bill is upheld, I think it is good to pause for a moment and take note that the liberals in Washington and the MSM appear like they've taken the loss. Case in point: on ABC This Week, CBS Face the Nation, and NBC Meet the Press, their respective guests, White House Chief of Staff Jack Lew, Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley, and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi all read from the same script refusing to acknowledge the High Court's determination that the ObamaCare mandate does constitute a tax. The leftist undertones of The Danger Rangers The only drawback I’ve so far discovered in cutting the cable is the lack of children’s programming broadcast on Saturday mornings. When all my electronics are in working order, Hulu and Netflix solve this issue handily. Unfortunately, my TV went kablooie, and the one from the spare room ain’t so internet friendly. DVDs only go so far b/c my kids still require supervision at all times and I ain’t watching the same eight episodes of SpongeBob over-and-over. So, I find myself tolerating the limited selection available over the airwaves. Most of it is fine, actually. There are, however, a couple of irksome programs. Take The Danger Rangers (please!) which might be better named "The Party Poopers." As you may have guessed, it is a show about safety-—stop, drop, and roll and whatnot—-which is well and good. Patriotism is no exemption to law You can't touch me! I'm wearing my 'invincibility flag!' I don't keep a list of pet peeves like some people do because everything that could be on my list is pretty well covered by a single item: stupidity . Normally, I need only avoid liberals in order to avoid being irritated, since they are the ones who cling to stupidity the most. But every now and then, I run into some stupidity on the right.   Nowhere does this happen more often than with matters concerning the American flag. Don't get me wrong, I love the flag--I even get a little misty sometimes reflecting on what it stands for. A not-so-sappy Thanksgiving message I realize that Thanksgiving Day is nearly over and that, for many, the Black Friday shopping has already begun. But even though the people and not the birds are the ones now stuffed, I don’t think it is too late for a few Thanksgiving thoughts. Besides, it gives me some room to fire off a rather harsher message than the more cheerful and reverent holiday messages that seem to come earlier while the big parade is still on. Gratitude. That’s the point of Thanksgiving, isn’t it? Not just feeling it, but showing it, too. Now, I don’t care whether you use the day to give thanks to God or your forefathers, your fellow man or to fate, or if you just want to share in a general, overall attitude of appreciation.
