It's not "ego." It's a claim that you encounter a lot—an insult really—that people are buying bigger and bigger trucks to compensate for… something. Indeed, and I've also seen "You're too close to be objective about it" for the upper-left quadrant too, usually said by someone who's anything but objective themselves of course.
